History
The city name of “Negombo” , Sinhalese name is Migamuva means “Village of the honeycomb” this name is came from a legend in Rajaveliya. The King Kawantissa’s army found bee hive in a canoe near the seashore of Negombo, for Viharamahadevi who was pregnant with the prince Dutugamunu. Because of this, the place was named as “Mee-Gomuwa”in Sinhala. Today Negombo is a freedom city with multicultural, multi ethnic and multi religious people live in harmony as one Bee Hive.
Negombo is a famous city with lots of Ayurvedic spas , Shopping places , Hotels and restaurants and it is very famous among the tourists who are visit Sri Lanka because of its facilities. Negombo is specially famous for beach side hotels and Ayurvedic treatments. Contemporary Negombo is named as” Little Rome” because of 90%of population of Negombo are Roman catholics. It is multicultural city with beautiful seashore.
